Methodology

Large institutions have unusual challenges when organizing continuity plans. COOP Systems is uniquely positioned to deliver superior support these special needs. We bring industry-standard and certified approaches, proven and delivered internationally since the disaster recovery plan and contingency plan business started in the 1980's. Our approach is similar to traditional project planning methodology, with the following important differences:

The continuity plan process only makes sense by spanning all critical operations of an institution. To recover only a portion of the processes (e.g., just IT or datacom) ignores the fact all people, processes, facilities and functions must be restored quickly to restore essential services. The disaster recovery plan and contingency plan are part of this process.

Large institutions span many geographies. For that reason, a standardized approach to Continuity of Operations plans and Business Continuity Plans for all facilities and functions is needed to maximize efficiencies and ensure quality. COOP Systems and its alliance partners operate globally with a standardized approach that is easily duplicated.

Specialized software from non-strategic vendors can be expensive, difficult to get approved and risky to own. COOP Systems' low-cost enabling software was built in partnership with Microsoft, using their Web-centric portal standards and tools. This software can avoid procurement delays and leverage existing technical support and plans.

Through these tools and techniques, the Continuity of Operations plan and Business Continuity Plan becomes a living document, as changes come from the result of test exercises and organizational changes.
